This is our country.
And it's no longer one that we, who voted blue, understand. I'm embarrassed. The people who voted Trump are good people, just like we are. And while part of me feels they are QUITE misinformed.... the other part of me wants to know what they are thinking that is SO important that they wanted HIM. Because I really don't have a clue. Who ARE they?
THIS IS THE ANSWER:
They are the other people who are not us. Our country is disconnected. VERY disconnected. I'm sure you can see that. So the answers? Very simple actually, because there are so many.
We need to operate schools differently. Children need to learn compassion, they need to understand not just how the government works, but why that matters...and many other things (imho). We need to look at successful educational systems in other countries and copy what works. We need to listen to our teachers who are right there and know what REALLY needs to be done (My ideas are just ideas - I defer to them). All told, this means we need to support our education system financially, with good representation in the government, and with ALL of us going to those school board meetings.
We need to get to know our neighbors. Get connected to our community. Be a part of the team, understand what's happening locally and influence it.
We need to participate. So many of us are trusting our neighbors to govern. If we don't like what they are doing, we need to get our hands wet.
Things like that. I'm not saying we are all apathetic. What I'm saying is that we are not listening to people who voted in Trump. That's why we didn't see it coming. So let's listen first, and see if either we are wrong, or they need help. It really could be either. That means we step out of our homes, and our patterns, and find a way to get involved .
And as we do this, let's please look after our LGBTQIA+ family. This is a scary time for them, and they have reason to feel threatened.

This has begun. We can shake our heads and move to another country, retreat to our homes and never leave, or we can embrace it, become a part of it, and influence it from the inside. Remember - if you can't do everything, do something.
